The property where we are building our retreat is located in the very resort-sounding hamlet of Alpine, Alabama. To call it anything larger than a hamlet would be a stretch as the “town center” consists of exactly the following: a stop sign, a brick “strip shopping center” that houses a café, the post office and a shuttered retail space. The Alpine Baptist Church also sits a half a block down the street and is as picturesque as any small town church in the country.
Within the Alpine postal route, our property sits on Glovers Ferry Road. And that is what has inspired us to dub our future retreat “Hand in Glove.” The name is more than a play on the street name.
It is a community spirit we plan to develop. We will open the property six times annually to targeted nonprofit organizations, as well as to friends and family throughout the year. [The Free Dictionary online: “In close cooperation”].
But equally important, it is a sentiment that describes our relationships with our friends and family. [Merriam-Webster online: “an extremely close relationship”].
